Untit<br>In the last few months, you may have noticed some changes on your favorite
scholarship website, FastWeb.com! We are continuously working to improve your
experience and ensure you are being matched with the best and most applicable
scholarships.
Back in June, we took on the huge task of reviewing our award database, which
has over 1.5 million scholarships worth over $3.5 billion. We did this to better
categorize our scholarships and in the process, found fun and interesting ways
for you to put your cash towards college.
We still offer our standard scholarships like merit and need based. But we
also found video and photo contests, lotteries, and free giveaways for back to
school needs like laptops and textbooks. In order to prevent any confusion
between the merit/need based and contest scholarships, we simply created a new
type of listing: Promotional Scholarships.
Promotional scholarships are typically sponsored through a company rather
than a school, like merit and need based scholarships. We will begin
differentiating these scholarships from the rest under the "Type" column on your
Scholarships Results page-just look for "Promotion." Each week, we will send you
an e-mail that groups all of your promotional scholarship opportunities together
and notifies you of approaching deadlines.
Keep an eye out for these fun scholarships and many other great changes
coming your way from FastWeb. Need further clarification on scholarship definitions? Check it out:
Merit. Scholarships you receive for your academic, artistic, and athletic achievements. Luckily for you, FastWeb provides a comprehensive list of all merit-based scholarships to the schools that you are considering in your college search. If you don't see these under your scholarship results, update your profile now to include your colleges!
Need. Once your FAFSA is filed, you'll receive a financial aid package from the colleges you're taking into account. You may notice, depending on how "needy" you are that there are scholarships listed in addition to your merit. These are need-based scholarships and are typically referred to as "grants." Find these scholarships on FastWeb as well!
Promotional. Companies use scholarships for marketing purposes. These typically require more than just an application or essay. Promotional scholarships or contests embody a more creative outlet in finding and securing the cash you need for college. They oftentimes ask applicants for their secret talent, a homemade movie, or original song lyrics to depict their qualifications for the award. Look for this NEW category on FastWeb--effective immediately!
